CO Safety Checklist

What is Carbon Monoxide (CO)?

  • Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless and tasteless poison gas that can be fatal when inhaled.
  • It is sometimes called the "silent killer".
  • CO can be produced when burning any fuel, such as gasoline, propane, natural gas, oil and wood.

What are the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning?

  • Initial symptoms are similar to the flu with no fever and can include dizziness, severe headaches, nausea, sleepiness, fatigue/weakness and disorientation/confusion.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America. According to The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), CO poisoning causes approximately 2,100 deaths in the US per year. The use of CO alarms could potentially prevent many of these deaths. Use this checklist to assess your risk of CO poisoning.
